Weirdest story you never heard...

It's gotta be the story of Edward Carabello, Jack Idema & Brent Bennett (pictured above). These guys were accused and convicted of running an illegal prison in Afghanistan and torturing their captives. Edward Carabello is a documentary filmmaker and 4 Time Emmy winner. Jack Idema and Brent Barrett say they were working with US and Afghan authorities. The US denies this as do the Afghans. It's a monumentally complex story about 1st amendment rights, embedded journalism but I believe it's mostly about the 'War on Terror' and what is being done in our name, with our tax dollars to 'Make Us Safer'. HERE is an good site that tells their side of events...It's called Superpatriots and if you love conspiracy stuff then it's for you...reminds me of my Christic Institute days:) So you've been warned, this is one of those posts that marks an entrance to the Rabbit Hole;)
I blog on this now because according to the BBC, Edward Carabello has been released from his afghan prison which means we'll probably be hearing more about this as he's promised to make a film.
We here at the Zoo wish him the best and hope to hear more about what's going on in Afghanistan for it is there that the front on the 'War on Terror' is being fought and, by all accounts...lost. Paul Danahar, the BBC South Asia Bureau Editor has a great article HERE on the current state of events in Afghanistan. It's not pretty. A great primer for understanding Afganistan and our role there is 'Ghost Wars' written by Steve Coll. You'll be amazed at how many of our former allies are now enemies"Gulbuddin Hekmatyar who is now formally designated by Executive Order 13224 of the United States Government as a Global Terrorist." He was one of our boys in the Afghan War against the Soviets. Read the book and you'll understand how Iran, Pakistani intelligence, Saudi money and US incompetence have brought us to the this point...so what is the point? Iraq is ugly and Afghanistan is about to follow suit (Or is currently following suit but you're not hearing about it)
